This job is for AfroPay an innovative peer-to-peer payments company whose focus is to bring financial freedom for all across all borders. To ensure compliance with laws, regulations and to protect our users and company from fraud and ensuring that the company can grow successfully, we need a legal & compliance officer.

Minimum qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • 3+ years of Legal Practice, preferrably in business, financial services
  • Ability to distill complex legalese into prose
  • Ability to read fast yet carefully through contracts
  • Ability to draft and create contracts
  • Creativity with a track record of achievements in legal wins
  • Experience of having led atleast 8 legal cases
  • Experience with Personal & Private Data Protection
  • Familiarity with sanctions checks & Suspicious Activity Reporting/Flagging

About the job

This role is exciting and involves owning the legal and compliance department of AfroPay: be part of an exciting company with a big mission. You’ll learn a lot coordinating with the different departments, to ensure that all activity is compliant with all laws of Uganda and any jurisdictions that the company spreads to. Your job will entail review new technology and business concepts before they go to production. You will also report to the Chief Operations Officer and the Chief Executive Officer in all legal aspects.
